Gimp's response "those people affected by the change are low-level users and would be better off using something else like digikam...." We would all do well to learn from this example. This small 50x50 pixel square can hold about 120 characters of information without degrading the image so it would be noticable to the casual viewer. This image was totally hidden inside the image above.
The following links helped me solve my problem... After this upgrade, i can't save files to PNG, JPG, etc... (XCF, bzip, gzip only). If we gave away all our secrets, then we wouldn't have anything to do but put out lamp post caches.
